When people hear Western food, they instantly think of Texas and cowboys. Not always so. Western food is a term mostly referred to the cuisines of Europe and Western countries, including Australia, which has one of the most diverse cultures in the world. When it comes to the culinary field, Australia is very multicultural, bearing Western cooking and other influences.

Western food in Australia is very rampant. As the majority of the nation’s account is based on traditional British fare brought by the first British settlers, one can find steaks, hams, and more prevalent in the food scene.

Morning meals in Australia is similar to breakfast in many Western nations. A light meal generally consists of toast, fruits, and cereals, while a heavier breakfast is similar to a full English breakfast of sausage, hash browns, eggs, and bacon. For the drinks, it may include milk, juice, coffee, or tea.

Lunch and dinner in Down Under is generally very Western-like. Although dishes differ according to the family’s background, average options include roast meat, pasta, pizza, casseroles, vegetables, and barbecue. Considered outback food includes steaks, grilled rib-eye, and lamb chops among others.

For takeout snacks, Australia has a wide assortment of takeout food, just like any other Western lands. Fish and chips is a very popular snack that is associated with the country and other Western nations such as England and the U.S. Hamburgers, sausage rolls, meat pies, are typically ordered to be taken outside an eatery.

Australia is also abundant with American fast food chains, such as KFC, McDonald’s, Subway, and KFC.

There are foods that retain its Australian touch while considered as Western at the same time, such as the favorite breakfast item Vegemite, a salty toast spread; pavlova cake and ANZAC biscuits; both of which are also being claimed as New Zealand creations; kangaroo meat; and meat pies.

Because the nation is highly shaped and wrought by its first British settlers, Western food in Australia, a former British colony, is very rampant and established to this day. The country’s culinary scene is molded by its settlers and dwellers while still remaining genuine to its native taste.
