As of 2009, bankruptcy filings that were new increased by over thirty five percent in just one year. Although it may seem like a dismal sign, a good way to look at it is that all of these people are on their own paths to rebuilding their credit scores and ultimately, financial freedom. We have all seen commercials with “people just like you and me” urging us to go to whatever website and check on our credit score. We know that if the number is high, it’s a good thing. It it’s low, it could mean trouble finding a loan, getting a job, or a new place to stay. But just what is a credit score?

Lasercraft gets paid eighty percent of the fees up to $4,500 per month and the city receives the twenty percent that remained. Above $4,5000, monthly collections are split evenly between the city and Lasercraft. The city’s share goes to the city’s general fund, it does not go to the Police Department.

Layoffs and pay cuts pushed more people towards bankruptcy last year, and experts say that the situation will most likely not iget better until the unemployment issue igets better. In Wisconsin, bankruptcy filings raised to 30 percent in 2009. This came on top of a 35 percent increase in the preceding year.

More than 200 Scranton taxpayers might have be mailed a letter from a debt collection agency they didn’t deserve. The notices are for garbage fees supposedly unpaid that may have actually been paid. According to officials, the garbage bill for 2009 could be at fault for more than 200 collection notices sent to city taxpayers in error last week.

In Dallas, the North Texas Tollway Authority, an entity responsible for collecting tolls, has been scrutinized for months over its toll collecting policy. This policy charges drivers who do not pay up at the toll booth fines of hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars. Because the NTTA has been under fire in the public eye, it announced today two steps it says that will target improving customer satisfaction.
